Short Stories . . . Really Short

Short story contest: Can you write a story in only six words. Try it!

Hemingway once bet his friend 10 dollars he could write a story in less than 10 words. This is what he wrote.

“For sale. Baby shoes. Never used”.

Wired magazine had a contest where people submitted short stories with six words or less. Here are a few samples:

Failed SAT. Lost scholarship. Invented rocket.
William Shatner

Vacuum collision. Orbits diverge. Farewell, love.
David Brin

Machine. Unexpectedly, I’d invented a time
Alan Moore

Longed for him. Got him. Shit.
Margaret Atwood

Here’s my first attempt:

“Stars on . . . off . . . on ; rich McBean”
Orphans of God (with apologies to Dr. Seuss)
